Mark Driscoll says it was a mistake to place himself under the authority of “new and young and green” elders (link). So in 2007 he made 28 year old Jamie Munson “lead pastor” and tossed out the authority of the elder board, most of whom were older than he was (link).
One thought on “I couldn’t trust young and green elders, so I put Jamie Munson in charge.”
Sir: you are a brilliant marketing guy, and I mean that as a compliment. Would you happen to know what a classic mantra/definition is for marketing:
“Effective marketing is truth well told.”
Imagine if MH had mastered that marketing truism, a decade ago. Would we even be in this mess? Not likely. At the core of this, to me, is lying. There is no other way to put it. And, as an increasingly “red letter” Christian, I remind everyone of this statement from the Man himself: “Liars and adulterers will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” Clearly, the lying description should cause all of us at MH to pause….we are in trouble.
Much has been said of the verses from Isaiah that Dalton R. quoted to EE’s. But even more interesting/disturbing are the verses, in the same book, that follow it:
“Leaders? No, misleaders and frauds.” And it gets worse from there (God’s anger). [Living Bible]
Even so, I am still praying for, and expecting, reconciliation, and a glorious advance for MH that includes all of us, even hardened warriors like you.
Thanks for your efforts.
